Andy Hammond

Andrew Hammond is Co-Headteacher of The Compton School, having joined the school in April 2002 as Head of Physical Education. Over more than two decades at the school, he has held a range of leadership roles and has played a significant part in shaping the culture, ethos and continued success of the school community.

Andrew studied for a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education and Computer Science at the University of Exeter before beginning his teaching career. Throughout his time at The Compton School, he has remained committed to ensuring that every young person, regardless of background, has access to an excellent education and the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

Andrew's leadership expertise is centred on teaching and learning, curriculum development, and school organisation and management. He has extensive experience leading whole-school improvement initiatives, developing effective systems and structures, and ensuring that high-quality teaching remains at the heart of the school's work. He is passionate about creating an environment where both students and staff can flourish through clear expectations, strong support and a relentless focus on excellence.

He believes strongly in meritocracy and that through hard work, perseverance and ambitious aspirations, every young person can create an exceptional future for themselves. This belief underpins his leadership and his commitment to ensuring that all students are challenged, supported and encouraged to achieve their very best.

Having lived locally for more than 25 years and with both of his sons having attended The Compton School, Andrew brings a unique perspective as both a school leader and parent. This deep connection to the local community reinforces his commitment to ensuring that the school continues to provide outstanding opportunities for the young people and families it serves.

Alongside his role as Co-Headteacher, Andrew is a Lead Facilitator for the National Professional Qualification in Senior Leadership (NPQSL), supporting the development of current and future school leaders. He is passionate about strengthening leadership across the education system and believes that collaboration, professional development and shared expertise are essential in ensuring all schools can provide the highest quality education for their students.
