Experienced English and literacy leader and trust subject specialist. Emily believes that English and literacy matter to life chances and to wider school success.  She is passionate about developing broad, ambitious and inspiring English curricula across the Trust and teacher development.

Emily joined The Compton School in 2011 as a newly qualified teacher of English; she became 2i/c in 2013 and then Head of English in 2014. Under her leadership, The Compton School’s English results continue to be consistently placed the school in the top 5% of schools nationally for progress.

Emily joined the Senior Leadership Team in 2019, as Assistant Headteacher, before being appointed as Assistant Director of Standards for Middlesex Learning Trust in 2022; her role is to provide support to Trust schools with communications. She is also the English Subject Specialist and is fully committed to working collaboratively with departments across the Trust to raise standards in English as well as support with reading and literacy across the curriculum.

Emily is a Visiting Fellow for Ambition Institute, facilitating the NPQLL. She is also an SLE and TES contributor.

Prior to working in education, Emily was a freelance journalist and features writer.
